How to Level a Washing Machine

Use Wobble Wedges® to Fix a Washer that Shakes, Vibrates or Walks

An unbalanced washing machine can sound downright violent rattling and shaking in your laundry room. If your washing machine shakes, moves, vibrates, or walks it is most likely because your washing machine is not placed on perfectly level ground and becomes unbalanced and wobbly as the heavy laundry whirls through its wash cycle. If your washing machine isn’t placed on perfectly level ground, one or more of the “feet” may have the ability to raise slightly off the floor, causing the washing machine to become unbalanced and noisy as the unlevel foot raises and lowers down. As the speed of your wash cycle increases, the vibration gets worse. To fix a washer that shakes or vibrates, use a Wobble Wedge® leveling shim to level the base of your washer and stop rattling and wobbling at the source.

Check to see if your washing machine is level

Do you suspect your washing may be unbalanced because it’s on an uneven flooring material? Place both of your palms firmly against the top of the washing machine. Push to gently rock your washing machine front to back and side to side. If your washing machine sways, and one or more feet lift off the ground, then your washing machine is not level.

Level your washing machine with Wobble Wedges

Once you have identified which foot (or feet) lift off the ground, use a Wobble Wedge plastic shim to secure and stabilize the bottom of your washing machine. These patented tapered shims slide easily into place, then firmly hold their grip to prevent your washing machine from wobbling, vibrating, or walking. Our soft plastic Wobble Wedge shims are ideal for stabilizing appliances on hard flooring materials, like wood, tile, or linoleum. Use hard plastic Wobble Wedges for appliances on soft flooring materials, like carpet or rugs.

Prevent Slipping, Scratching & Marks When Using a Vice

Use Wobble Wedges® to stabilize and protect materials in a vice clamp

Securing delicate materials in a vice clamp can be a challenge. Shiny metals will slip in a vice clamp if it’s not tightened down enough and will scratch or dent if the vice is overtightened. This can be a problem for plumbers or handymen looking to manipulate delicate copper pipes and is especially detrimental for jewelry makers looking to solder and polish particularly sensitive metals like silver and gold. Our soft plastic tapered shims are perfect for holding delicate materials in a vice to prevent slipping and scratch marks.

Hold piping and soft metal materials in a vice clamp

Securing a round pipe in a vice with a flat clamping surface can be a pain, especially if you can’t overtighten the vice and risk denting or scratching the material. Wobble Wedge® tapered plastic shims are perfect for keeping material from slipping in a vice and avoiding swirl marks, bites, or scratches. Simply place soft plastic Wobble Wedges on either side of your material. Use the tapered structure to help secure round piping or any material with curvature. The soft plastic  wedge material is flexible and will bend around your material while the patented ridges help grip your material and prevent slipping in the vice.

Avoid vice bites, scratches and marks

Use Wobble Wedge soft plastic shims to help avoid vice vites, scratches, and marring of the surface of your material. The soft plastic wedges help protect your delicate material from any sharp grooves on the clamps of your vice. Allowing you to tighten the vice enough to securely hold your materials WITHOUT causing vice bites or scratches. Our tapered leveling shims are designed with a flexible soft plastic that will gently absorb the pressure of the vice clamp and hold your material in place.

Perfect for plumbers and jewelers

Plumbers working with soft metal piping materials need to be able to perform careful soldering and fittings without creating dents or misshaping the pipe. Plumbers will also want to keep Wobble Wedge plastic shims in their tool box for leveling wobbly toilets and silencing rattling pipes. Jewelers working with especially delicate metals can’t risk damaging an expensive piece by overtightening their vice clamp. Jewelers can utilize standard sized soft plastic Wobble Wedge and Mini Wobble Wedges depending on the size of the material to be held in the vice.

How To Install A Concrete Water Fountain

Many homeowners love the look and the sound of concrete water fountains in home gardens or as lavish landscaping elements on estates. However, the ground where you are installing a concrete fountain is rarely flat. Luckily, Wobble Wedge plastic shims make it easy to level a concrete water fountain during installation. These rigid plastic shims can hold up to 2,000 pounds per shim and can be stacked to fill any gap. Continue reading to learn exactly how to use Wobble Wedges to level a concrete fountain during installation.

How to Level a Concrete Fountain During Installation

  1. Select a location.
  2. Install a foundation if needed. Fountains weighing under 30 lbs can be placed right on the leveled ground. Fountains over 30 lbs will need to be placed on a broad foundation made of cinder blocks, flagstone, or poured concrete.
  3. Dig a trench to lay in a GFI electrical power line to the fountain location. Be sure to consult your local building codes to learn the correct method for laying power lines in your area.
  4. Dig in a second trench for a water line. If you wish to run your fountain in the winter, be sure to bury the water line below the frost line in your area.
  5. Follow the instructions provided with your fountain to install the hardware and pump. Be sure to leave an easy access to the pump and water lines for cleaning and maintenance.
  6. Place the first tier of the fountain on the foundation with the water line ready to go into the successive tiers. Place a long carpenter’s level across the lip of the first tier and rotate it around to see where it needs to be raised to be level.
  7. Using a thin pry bar, raise the fountain and slip in Hard Wobble Wedges where needed. Rotate the level often to insure it is level in all directions.
  8. Install each successive tiers with water line.
  9. Fill the fountain with water and turn on the power. Check for leaks and tighten connections if needed.
  10. As the water is running, use a pry bar to slip Hard Wobble Wedges or Hard Mini-Wobble Wedges under each tier where they are needed to achieve the perfect water flow.

How To Level & Stabilize Precast Concrete Steps

If you’re planning to install concrete steps, pavers, or blocks this summer GRAB YOUR WOBBLE WEDGES®! Rigid plastic Wobble Wedges® can help level uneven concrete stairs or blocks and won’t budge or eventually give way to the elements. Wobble Wedges can hold up to 2,000 pounds of weight. Use the interlocking ridges to stack wedges to solve any wobble or gap.

Leveling precast concrete steps or other large concrete objects is often done with stones, sand or clods of dirt. Using Wobble Wedge tapered shims can be faster and more accurate. Here’s how:

Plastic shims for leveling concrete steps or blocks

  1. Dig a pit and install a foundation of cinder blocks in a bed of gravel or sand. Or, lay in a poured concrete pad. Level sand or concrete as precisely as possible.
  2. Place the steps on the foundation and check for level and stability.
  3. Using a sturdy pry bar, lift the steps to insert rigid plastic Wobble Wedges in any combination of sizes needed to level and stabilize the steps.  While lifting with the pry bar gently tap wedges till they fill the gap firmly.
  4. Check once again for level and stability and adjust as necessary. Trim to fit with a strike of a sharp chisel if needed.

How To Fix A Wobbly Toilet

A wobbly toilet is bound to become a leaky wobbly toilet. Leaky toilets can cause a lot of damage to the flooring, floorboards, and into the foundation or room below. Therefore, it’s important to fix a wobbly toilet as soon as the wobble is noticed to prevent leaking. A soft Wobble Wedge® toilet shim can fix a wobbly toilet quickly and prevent future leaking.

Have you ever sat down on your toilet and felt the entire porcelain thrown shift forward under your weight? A wobbly toilet is obnoxious for the residents in your home and also for the guests who visit. And, as mentioned above, a wobbly toilet can eventually lead to leaking plumbing overtime.

A toilet might wobble for a variety of reasons. Perhaps it is sitting on uneven flooring material or the flooring material has become warped over time. The porcelain itself can also be uneven or the positioning of plumbing can cause your fixtures to sit askew. If there is a gap between your floor and the toilet, a Wobble Wedge plastic shim is a quick and easy solution to fix wobbling or rocking.

  4. Slip one or more flexible plastic Wobble Wedge® shims into the gap between the toilet and the flooring until the toilet is both level and stable.
  5. Tighten the toilet bolts with gentle tension until the bolts are snug and the toilet feels solid. Be careful not to over-tighten the bolts.
  6. Use a razor blade to trim the excess material away from the plastic shim for an invisible finished product.

How To Fix a Leaky & Wobbly Toilet

If your toilet has been rocking for a number of months or years it is possible that your plumbing will become worn and start to leak over time. If your toilet is currently leaking, the wax seal is already damaged and should be replaced as soon as possible. In addition to repairing the wax seal, you can also add Wobble Wedges to stabilize your toilet and prevent reoccurrence or future damage.
