How To Install A Concrete Water Fountain

Many homeowners love the look and the sound of concrete water fountains in home gardens or as lavish landscaping elements on estates. However, the ground where you are installing a concrete fountain is rarely flat. Luckily, Wobble Wedge plastic shims make it easy to level a concrete water fountain during installation. These rigid plastic shims can hold up to 2,000 pounds per shim and can be stacked to fill any gap. Continue reading to learn exactly how to use Wobble Wedges to level a concrete fountain during installation.

How to Level a Concrete Fountain During Installation

  1. Select a location.
  2. Install a foundation if needed. Fountains weighing under 30 lbs can be placed right on the leveled ground. Fountains over 30 lbs will need to be placed on a broad foundation made of cinder blocks, flagstone, or poured concrete.
  3. Dig a trench to lay in a GFI electrical power line to the fountain location. Be sure to consult your local building codes to learn the correct method for laying power lines in your area.
  4. Dig in a second trench for a water line. If you wish to run your fountain in the winter, be sure to bury the water line below the frost line in your area.
  5. Follow the instructions provided with your fountain to install the hardware and pump. Be sure to leave an easy access to the pump and water lines for cleaning and maintenance.
  6. Place the first tier of the fountain on the foundation with the water line ready to go into the successive tiers. Place a long carpenter’s level across the lip of the first tier and rotate it around to see where it needs to be raised to be level.
  7. Using a thin pry bar, raise the fountain and slip in Hard Wobble Wedges where needed. Rotate the level often to insure it is level in all directions.
  8. Install each successive tiers with water line.
  9. Fill the fountain with water and turn on the power. Check for leaks and tighten connections if needed.
  10. As the water is running, use a pry bar to slip Hard Wobble Wedges or Hard Mini-Wobble Wedges under each tier where they are needed to achieve the perfect water flow.

How To Level & Stabilize Precast Concrete Steps

If you’re planning to install concrete steps, pavers, or blocks this summer GRAB YOUR WOBBLE WEDGES®! Rigid plastic Wobble Wedges® can help level uneven concrete stairs or blocks and won’t budge or eventually give way to the elements. Wobble Wedges can hold up to 2,000 pounds of weight. Use the interlocking ridges to stack wedges to solve any wobble or gap.

Leveling precast concrete steps or other large concrete objects is often done with stones, sand or clods of dirt. Using Wobble Wedge tapered shims can be faster and more accurate. Here’s how:

Plastic shims for leveling concrete steps or blocks

  1. Dig a pit and install a foundation of cinder blocks in a bed of gravel or sand. Or, lay in a poured concrete pad. Level sand or concrete as precisely as possible.
  2. Place the steps on the foundation and check for level and stability.
  3. Using a sturdy pry bar, lift the steps to insert rigid plastic Wobble Wedges in any combination of sizes needed to level and stabilize the steps.  While lifting with the pry bar gently tap wedges till they fill the gap firmly.
  4. Check once again for level and stability and adjust as necessary. Trim to fit with a strike of a sharp chisel if needed.

How To Level Concrete Blocks

To build a good looking concrete block wall it is critical to get the first course perfectly level. This can be challenging when the foundation wall is not level. Wobble Wedge tapered installation shims makes this job easy and fast. Here’s how:

Step by Step:

  1. Select hard Wobble Wedges of the appropriate size (see 4 Interlocking Sizes).
  2. Set a level string line on both sides of the block as a guide
  3. Press or lightly tap a Wobble Wedge under both sides of the blocks as needed to bring them squarely up to the guide line.

If needed, Wobble Wedges can be securely stacked to fill the larger gaps.

Wobble Wedges can be used in all block courses to set and maintain and even joint width.

How To Level Stone Countertops

Shims are often required to achieve a perfect seam between stone countertops. Commonly used contractor shims are long and must be trimmed off at the front of the cabinet.  At just 2 inches, Wobble Wedge provide plenty of precision adjustment but rarely need to be trimmed.

Stone Countertop Installation

  1. Apply your chosen adhesive to the framing members of the cabinet base.
  2. Set the stone or cultured stone countertop on the cabinet base.
  3. Set a long level across the length of the countertop and a short level across the width.
  4. Using a pry bar with a thin end, lift the stone carefully and slide a Hard Wobble Wedge between the stone and the cabinet frame.
  5. If a Wobble Wedge gets pushed in too far it is easy to retrieve and adjust by pulling on the Grab Bar with a pair of needle nose pliers.
  6. To adjust the front edge of the countertop, push the Wobble Wedges in from the inside of the cabinet toward the front edge. At 1 7/8” long they will not reach to the front edge of the cabinet and therefore will not need to be trimmed.
  7. Use as many Wobble Wedges as needed and adjust the countertop to level and achieve perfectly aligned seams.
  8. Leave the Wobble Wedges in place and allow the glue to set.
