Flexible Plastic Shims Secure Car Windows Prior to Repair

Flexible Plastic Shims Secure Car Windows Prior to Repair

The nontraditional ways that people come up with to use Wobble Wedges never cease to amaze! We have now heard from several individuals that have used our flexible plastic shims to secure their car windows while they are awaiting repairs. This creative solution uses the patented interlocking ridges to grip onto the glass window surface while the wedge shape provides leverage to keep the window from sliding back into the door. It is not incredibly unusual for the mechanical components in a car door to fail, causing the window to fall down into the door. The window itself isn’t broken, but the mechanical components supporting the window are. This can be a safety and security risk until you’re able to take your vehicle into a mechanic for repairs. Wobble Wedge plastic shims are a great temporary solution!

Will Wedges Work for Your Car Window?

If the glass of your car window is shattered, this solution will not work for you. This quick fix only applies when your window is slipping down into the body of your car door. You should be able to grab the window with your palms on either side of the glass and pull it back up into place. If you release the window it will slide back down. This applies to vehicles with manual and automatic window mechanisms.

Raise the Window and Insert the Wedge

Gripping the window firmly with your palms on either side of the glass, pull the window into it’s fully closed position. Holding the window into place with one hand or with the assistance of another helper, insert a flexible plastic Wobble Wedge shim into the gap between the window glass and the rubber at the bottom of the window. Insert the wedge starting at the skinny end of the wedge, with the fat end of the wedge pointed up towards the top of the window. Press the shim firmly into the gap until you cannot press it down any more. You may need multiple wedges depending on the weight and size of your car window. Inserting wedges on both sides of your window will help hold it in place.

Temporarily Keep Car Windows from Falling

Keep in mind this is just a temporary solution to help you get your vehicle to a qualified repair technician. This is another great reason to keep Wobble Wedges on hand! Get started with a Wobble Wedge variety pack or a 30 pack of flexible clear plastic shims.
